Granddaddy is a wise old retired railroad conductor from Alabama who knows his Southern woods, waters and skies! He spent his early adult years in the United States Air Force where he was a Military Police Officer at Sembach Air Base in Germany.
Granddaddy has been all over the world and seen a lot of things, so he has lots of practical wisdom to share right here on his own personal corner of The Southern Witching Hour Podcast website.
Do your best! Damn the rest.
Oysters on the Half shell 🦪
It's oyster eating time!
We love oysters on the half shell around here. The best time to eat them is in months that end in "r". Some folks say that you can eat them in any month that has the letter "r" in it. Of course modern food safety and storage practices have likely changed those rules, but we always used the "r" rule for eating oysters when I was growing up in order to avoid serious illness.

Beware The "Dog Days "of Summer!
Dog days are in high gear! They began during the first week of July and will end mid August. Legend has it that the name "Dog Days" comes from the fact that the constellation, Canis Major, with its bright "Dog Star," Sirius, rises 'fore day in the morning during this time of year. Now, there is some debate about how "Dog Days" got its name.
It don't matter though, the point is, this is the worst time of year to get any kinda illness or infection because it takes a much longer time for things to heal during Dog Days; so be careful out there.
Stay tuned, I'll be a guest on an upcoming episode of The Southern Witching Hour Podcast with my daughter, LadyG, to talk more about it .
Saying "rabbit" 🐇 three times on the first day of the month is thought to bring good luck for the rest of the month.
Watch the birds!🐦⬛ Low flying birds mean bad weather's on the way!
LadyG's Porch at twilight! Already got a jack-o-lantern on display! Look carefully, you'll spy a firefly!
Madame Hailey Hailley (you read that right) is LadyG's great aunt. She describes herself as a prim, proper, Southern woman of a certain age.
You might also find that the adjectives: "creepy" and "nice-nasty," are, indeed, applicable.
Madame Hailley owns and operates a funeral parlor/spa, frequents cemeteries, and travels into the spirit realm to see "what's really going on."
When she is not being her typical shady self, she can be found lounging with her fur baby, a "cat " named Simon, who looks and sounds suspiciously like a Pomeranian.
She is also a guest host on The Southern Witching Hour Podcast.
If you enjoy card readings, be sure to listen to A Reading From Madame Hailley on the podcast. In this series, Madame Hailley offers a weekly tarot reading for you all as a collective.
According to Madame Hailley, her readings are timeless and applicable whenever you find them.
**Readings are for entertainment purposes only, and are released on Sundays.
Them that's got shall get
Them that's not shall lose
So the bible said and it still is news...
-God Bless The Child
Billie know she sang that song! Take heed to the lyrics. Listen to this week's reading about what may be coming to fruition with the August 19, 2024 full moon.
Let's keep in touch!

Southern Cemetery Chronicles: Decoding Buried Secrets!
This episode features my shady Aunt Hailley decoding "buried secrets." She also explains why certain graves face East.
